OUR APPROACH
yellow dot Our approach is thoroughly professional and we are well regarded by clients and candidates for the effective management of the entire search process. This includes high quality and timely communications with our clients and with both successful and unsuccessful candidates. In general, we use the following recruitment methodology, although our approach is always tailored to the particular requirement at hand.

1. Pre-Search Analysis
Prior to conducting the assignment, we insist on meeting with our client to thoroughly investigate the requirement we seek to fill, including the organizational context of the position, the corporate culture, as well as, the experience and personal qualities sought in a successful candidate. We also like to review the immediate and longer term challenges and opportunities of the position. It has been our experience that careful analysis at this stage of the search assures a sound understanding of the requirement and leads to a more positive fulfillment of the search.


2. Source Research
During this phase of the search, we shall identify potential candidates and referral sources through whom we might learn of qualified persons. A studied and systematic effort will be extended in support of the search, using our full resources and experience. Because of our extensive experience in Executive Search across the broad spectrum of Canadian commerce, we have an established network of knowledgeable senior management contacts, which will prove most useful in assisting us in the identification of prospective candidates for most senior requirements. We also maintain an extensive database, accumulated over the years, which contains the resumes of executives across Canada.

As a critically important step, we shall conduct a program of market research specific to the position aimed at identifying qualified candidates wherever they may be located. On a confidential basis, we shall approach qualified individuals to determine their potential interest in the position.

Our Senior Research Associate, a University of Toronto educated economist, has been with the firm for over ten years and acts as an exclusive resource providing project specific original research on a wide variety of assignments.

As a secondary step, we sometimes recommend advertising a particular executive search requirement. We always discuss the merits of advertising with our client, and should we mutually determine that advertising has merit, we shall draft an advertisement for your approval and arrange for its insertion in an appropriate publication (s).

3. Candidate Screening and Evaluation
Screening is a continuous process throughout the search. Prospective candidates are thoroughly screened to provide a preliminary assessment of personal qualities, professional capabilities, and potential 'fit' with your organization.

If a candidate appears qualified for the position and demonstrates a sincere interest, we proceed with the evaluation process. Through a series of interviews, the candidate's experience, managerial ability, accomplishments, personal characteristics, and strengths and weaknesses are analyzed. The evaluation process includes any internal prospective candidates or any candidates who may approach you directly.

4. Reference Investigation
We attempt to verify material representations made by candidates, as well as draw our own conclusions about their strengths and weaknesses. We interview previous employers and business references of final candidates, concentrating as appropriate on past supervisors, peers and subordinates. This enables us to obtain a practical, reliable appreciation of the candidate's actual performance and competence.


5. Candidate Reports
Midway through the assignment, we develop a "short list" of five to seven prospective candidates. We then proceed to discuss this list with you to further sharpen our focus on the requirement. After further evaluation, we submit a confidential written report on a list of finalist candidates. These reports include information obtained during the search process, plus our professional opinion concerning the candidate's experience and personal characteristics as they relate to the specific position at hand.

6. Selection
We are available to assist in the scheduling of interviews of short listed candidates with you. We are also pleased to share our experience on the set up and conduct of these selection interviews, and, in general, we act as a 'process consultant' in this exercise. We are available to participate in the discussions and assessment of the relative merits of the various candidates. We are also available to assist in the area of salary negotiations with the finalist candidate and with the formulation of an offer of employment if so required.
